Public Bus No.552 (34 Bahts)
The public bus No. 552 is the most reasonable way from the airport to Sukhumvit Onnut Guesthouse (Petit Hotel Cedarberg).
- From the terminal building, take a free shuttle bus to the Airport Bus Terminal.
- At the Bus Terminal, take 552 (not 552A) bound for On Nut BTS Station (34 Bahts).
- Get off at the 'Sukhumvit 58/89' bus stop (You better ask a bus conductor. There is no announcement).
- It takes approximately 30-60 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
If the bus 552 does not come for a long time...
"Technically speaking, the bus 552 operates around the clock (24 hours). However, even if the bus 552 does not come for a long time, or the staff of the Airport Bus Terminal says, "You have missed the last 552," or something, please do not use a taxi from the bus terminal. They may be more malicious than drivers waiting at the terminal building.
Instead, you can take 552A and get off at the final bus stop, "Samuut Plakan" and then from there, you have the following two choices:
- Catch another public bus (2, 25, 508, 511) and get off at the 'Sukhumvit 58/89' bus stop.
- Catch a street taxi to "Sukhumvit 89", which is pronounced as "sukumvit pheesip kaaw".
This is definitely a cheaper option than using those dangerous taxis from the Airport Bus Terminal."
After you get off at Sukhumvit 58/89 bus stop...
There is a walking bridge near 'Sukhumvit 58/89' bus stop. Cross the bridge to the other side of Sukhumvit Road. It's the entrance of 'Sukhumvit Soi 89' (this street is well-marked). Go in Soi 89. You will find our guesthouse on the left side (about 150m away from the entrance of Soi 89). We have a black big signboard that says "Sukhumvit On Nut Community Center/Guesthouse" outside.
Metered Taxi (160-190 Bahts)
Taxi is the most convenient way if you have big backpack or suitcase. Meter charge from the airport to our guesthouse will be US$4 (160-190 Bahts) via On Nut Road (the shortest route).
Some taxi drivers may want to take a faster route (Bang Na - Trad Road) depending on the traffic conditions. In this case, the fare may be around US$6 (250-290 Bahts). Passengers departing the Internationa Airport must pay a 50-baht surcharge.
Some guests had a problem of what we call 'rip-off' taxis. Bangkok's taxis are usually safe, but some airport taxi drivers may try to overcharge you. Here are several tips to avoid possible rip-offs:
Important Tactics to Avoid Taxi Rip-offs
- Please do not show the map to your driver!
If you show the map attached to this email, you will allow your driver to know your 'right' destination from the first. This may arouse an evil scheme of your driver!
- First, tell your driver an incorrect destination, "On Nut Soi 89" by saying:
"Go to On Nut 90" (Pai On Nut Soi bpeesip kaaw) This street does not exist (On Nut Road ends at 79). However, if it exists, it's quite near to the airport. If your taxi goes to On Nut 89 from the airport, your driver must get off at the exit that connects to the shortest route (On Nut Road).
- Second, change destinations to "On Nut Soi 44" by saying:
"Sorry. Go to On Nut 44." (Kohtort. Pai On Nut Soi seesip see) When your taxi approaches the incorrect destination (On Nut 89), your taxi will slow down and your driver will start looking for the street. It's the time to change destinations to "On Nut Soi 44". This is required to force your driver keep going on the shortest route (On Nut Road).
- Lastly, change destinations again to "Sukhumvit 89" by saying:
"Sorry. Go to Sukhumvit Soi 89." (Kohtort. Pai Sukumvit Soi bpeesip kaaw) When your taxi approaches On Nut 44, your taxi will slow down and your driver will start looking for the street. It's the time to change destinations again to "Sukhumvit 89". At this moment, your driver has lost any chance of taking a roundabout route to our guesthouse.
Other Useful Tips
- Avoid unlicensed taxis.
- Request your driver to use a meter,
"Karunaa chai meetaa krap/kaa" ("Krap" is for men, "Kaa" is for women) If your driver seems to ignore your request / tries to negotiate the price / refuse to use a meter, you must stop the taxi IMMEDIATELY and go back to the taxi stand on foot. You must judge this within 20 seconds, otherwise it will be too far to go back to the taxi stand.
- Request your driver not to use a toll road (expressway),
"Yaa chai taanduan na krap/kaa" ("Krap" is for men, "Kaa" is for women) You do not need to use an expressway (toll road). But some taxi drivers try to use it intentionally.
- Check that the meter is not tampered.
For the first 1-2 minutes, the meter must show "35". If the meter price increases from the first, you must stop the taxi IMMEDIATELY and go back to the taxi stand on foot. You must judge this within 20 seconds, otherwise it will be too far to go back to the taxi stand.
- What if your taxi does not stop...
Please shout to the driver, "Stop!" and then open the door slightly. This is quite effective to stop a taxi. Please pay attention to the timing of opening the door in order not to be hurled out of your taxi.
- What if your taxi goes too far from the taxi stand...
You should not stop your taxi immediately because, at this moment, you have become unable to catch a vacant taxi coming from behind (i.e. all taxis are full). Instead, you may change your destinations to "Rom Klao Rd." (just one minute from the airport). After your taxi gets off at the "Rom Klao Rd." exit, you can change taxis there. At Rom Klao Rd. (see the attached map), it is relatively easy to catch a cruising taxi, whose drivers are more kind and sincere than airport taxi drivers. If your (first) driver asks you to pay the fare, pay just 35 Bahts (the starting fare). If you have no coins, just pay 40 Bahts (in Thailand, it is customary not to give back a change less than 10 Bahts).
- What if all these efforts end in vain...
In cases where you cannot make your driver to turn on a meter/stop the taxi/get off at Rom Klao Rd. or you are unable to change taxis for some reasons (bad weather etc.), the last choice is to negotiate the price. STATISTICALLY, the average price range should be 220-270 Bahts. 300 Bahts are a bit overpriced, but still within an acceptable level.
- Taxi drivers may not be able to read the map.
So you better prepare for giving some road instructions to your driver. From the airport to our guesthouse, your taxi turn left/veer off to the left only five times.
- Surcharge for departing taxis from the airport.
You MUST pay additional 50 Bahts to the meter fare in accordance with the law. So, if your driver requests this 50 Bahts, it's not a "tipping" request.
- Disclaimer
If, unfortunately, you are "ripped off", we cannot be responsible/liable for the overcharge by malicious taxi drivers. We wish you a good luck. God or Buddha may bless you!

Instructions from Bangkok Northern Bus Station (Mo Chit Mai) to Sukhumvit On-nut Guesthouse
If you take a Bangkok-bound bus from the northern or north-eastern cities (Chiang Mai, Chian Rai, Sukotai, Udon Thani, Nonkai, Ubon Rachathani, Surin, Brilam, Nakon Rachashima, or other cities of Isan Province), you will arrive at Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit Mai).
From here, you can have two choices to move to Sukhumvit Onnut Guesthouse (Petit Hotel Cedarberg):
- Metered taxi, tuk-tuk, or motorcycle taxi + BTS Train
- Metered taxi
In this section, the detailed instructions are provided. Please remember that the bus station (Mo Chit Mai) and the BTS station (Mo Chit) look quite close on the map, but there is no street linking both stations directly. So walking between these two stations with heavy bags is not a wise decision.
Metered Taxi + BTS (85 Bahts)
This is the easiest and less expensive way from Bangkok's Northern Bus Terminal to Sukhumvit Onnut Guesthouse (Petit Hotel Cedarberg).
However, if you carry heavy bags, or you are very tired, or you are a group of three or more, we recommend you to use a taxi all the way from the bus terminal to our guesthouse.
- Take a motorcycle taxi or metered taxi to BTS Mo Chit Station (40-45 Bahts)
- Take BTS Skytrain, and get off at On Nut, where is located at a 12-minute walk from the guesthouse.
- From On Nut Station, follow the instruction in the From On Nut BTS Sky Train Station section.

- Try to avoid using a taxi during the rush hours (6:30-9:30, 17:00-20:00).
- An additional toll road charge (45 Bahts) may apply. As the surface roads are heavily congested in the daytime, so in most cases (especially during the daytime), using an expressway (toll road) is suggested.
- All taxis are metered.
Instructions from Bangkok Southern Bus Station (Saai Tai Mai) to Sukhumvit On-nut Guesthouse
The long-distance bused from Hat Yai, Phuket, Krabi, Srat Thani, Ko Samui, and Hua Hin arrive at Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal (Saai Tai Mai).
The Southern Bus Terminal is located in the western surburbs of Bangkok, and it is quite far from the central. However, if you use the public buses 507, you can move to Sukhumvit On-nut Guesthouse (Cedarberg Inn) very reasonably.
Since the Southern Bus Terminal is not close to the expressway entrance, taxis may be stuck in the traffic jam while you are heading for the central. So we recommend our guests to use the bus No. 507 all the time.
If you are carrying heavy bags, or you are very tired, using a taxi is a good option.

- The east-bound (i.e. central-bound) buses 507 directly takes you to the nearest bus stop to Sukhumvit Onnut Guesthouse (Petit Hotel Cedarberg).

- Fares may be 190-220 Bahts.
Gateway to Pattaya, Ko Samet, and Ko Chang
If you are arriving from the south-eastern part of Thailand such as Pattaya, Bansaen Beach, Ko Samet, Ko Chang, Chomburi, or Sa Kaew, your bus is heading for Bangkok's Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai).
Please remember that you should NOT be on board to the bus terminal, because all of these buses stop at BTS On Nut Station, which is close to Sukhumvit On-nut Guesthouse (Cedarberg Inn). Riding your bus to the bus terminal and coming back to On Nut is a waste of time. If you can get off the bus at BTS On Nut Station, please follow the instruction in the 'From BTS On Nut Station' section.
If you carry big bags and it is stored in the storage space of your bus, the bus conductor may not allow you to get off at BTS On Nut. In such cases, you have to ride the bus to the final destination, the Eastern Bus Terminal.
This sections describes how to move from the Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai) to Sukhumvit On-nut Guesthouse.
